B2. Transfer in the context of the Biosciences : USAL BioTransfer

We have developed models for transferring knowledge in the area of the Biosciences to the market (Biotransfer) that facilitate the identification of projects of interest for industry and/or the marketplace, the search for financing, and the marketing of the results through the Office for the Transfer of Research Results (OTRI). The OTRI facilitates contracts with companies for carrying out research, technical, or artistic work (article 83 of the Basic Law of Universities), channels projects towards European programs (such as Horizon 2020), promotes collaborative projects with other research bodies and with businesses (through the INNPACTO program of the Spanish Ministry for Economics and Competitiveness), facilitates applications for patents of inventions (industrial and intellectual property) and the transfer of technology to business (with the T-cue Program of the Regional Government of Castile & Leon). These organizational and functional models have been developed and implemented in research bodies in which the University of Salamanca collaborates with external agencies or bodies (Science Park of the University of Salamanca, the Ultrashort Pulse Laser Centre, the National DNA Bank, the Cancer Research Centre, the Neurosciences Institute of Castile & Leon, the Hispano-Luso Institute of Agricultural Research, the Salamanca Institute for Biomedical Research, The Institute of Functional and Genomic Biology). Through these structures we have achieved a substantial improvement in contracts and projects with external financing, as well as an increase in the number of patents.
